Instructions

Step 1: Marinating the Crab

  1. In a bowl, mix the crab pieces with turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt, and lemon juice.
  2. Let the crab marinate for about 15-20 minutes to absorb the spices.

Step 2: Preparing the Curry Base

  1. Heat coconut oil in a large pan or kadhai over medium heat.
  2. Add curry leaves, green chilies, and sauté for a few seconds.
  3. Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
  4. Stir in ginger-garlic paste and cook until the raw smell fades.
  5. Add chopped tomatoes, coriander powder, cumin powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the oil begins to separate from the masala.

Step 3: Cooking the Crab

  1. Add the marinated crab pieces to the curry base. Stir gently to coat the crab in the spices.
  2. Pour in tamarind paste, coconut milk, and water. Mix well and bring the curry to a gentle simmer.
  3. Cook for 15-20 minutes, allowing the crab to cook thoroughly and absorb all the flavors. If needed, adjust the consistency by adding more water.

Step 4: Garnishing and Serving

  1. Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.
  2. Serve hot with steamed rice or flatbread (roti, naan).
